Robert Baines (NH) and More Than 1000 Guests Celebrate the National
Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan), October 7.
Speaker Patrick Colwell (Maine), Mayor of
Manchester (NH) Robert Baines and more than 1000 guests joined Dr.
C.K. Liu, director general TECO-Boston to celebrate the National
Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan) at the Fairmont Copley Plaza
in Boston on October 7, 2004.
Speaker Colwell expressed his well wishes
on behalf of the Maine House of Representatives. He commended the
Republic of China on the impressive accomplishments in achieving
democracy and highlighted the close relationship that the peoples
of Maine and Taiwan share. Mayor Baines likewise offered his congratulations
and praised the many achievements Taiwan has made, the unity of
its people and Taiwan's commitment to democracy. He also mentioned
that the City of Manchester and Taichung share a strong sister city
relationship.
Proclamations and citations with well wishes
were received from governors of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont,
Maine and Rhode Island. Patrick J. Kennedy, United States Congressman;
Robert E. Travaglini, President of the Senate, Massachusetts Senate;
Thomas M. Finneran, former Speaker of the Massachusetts House of
Representatives; Maine Senate and House of Representatives, Beverly
C. Daggett, President of the Senate and Patrick Colwell, Speaker
of the House; Joseph A. Montalbano, President of the Senate, Rhode
Island Senate; James E. Doyle, Mayor, City of Pawtucket, Rhode Island;
Thomas M. Menino, Mayor, City of Boston; Robert A. Baines, Mayor,
City of Manchester, New Hampshire; and Felix D. Arroyo, City Councilor,
City of Boston all gave citations/proclamations expressing congratulations
to the people of Taiwan on National Day.
