Dr. C.K. Liu and Congressman Patrick Kennedy dot the eye of the dragon
at ceremony in Rhode Island, August 20

Dr. C. K. Liu, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston, Congressman Patrick Kennedy, Mayor James Doyle, City Falls Mayor Charles Moreau and other distinguished guests attended a ceremony in front of Pawtucket City Hall in Rhode Island as they welcomed the arrival of 6 dragon boats from Taiwan.

The day began with a brief ceremony at GTECH Corporation of Rhode Island. Dr. Liu spoke before representatives of GTECH thanking and recognizing the generous contribution of a dragon boat for the annual Dragon Boat Race and Taiwan Day Festival. He praised GTECH's commitment to the community and the importance of creating better understanding between Taiwan and the United States.

The morning event at GTECH was followed by a dragon eye dotting ceremony in Pawtucket, in which Dr. C.K. Liu emphasized the significance of the dragon boats as a testament to the bond of friendship between the people of Taiwan and Rhode Island, as well as an important milestone for the Dragon Boat Race and Taiwan Day Festival. Congressman Kennedy praised Taiwan¡¦s democracy and referred to Taiwan as a ¡§beacon of democracy¡¨ in the Asia Pacific region. He said that he looks forward to strengthening trade and cultural relations between Taiwan and the United States
