Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou leads trade
delegation to Boston, August 12-14
Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou led a trade delegation
to Boston from August 12 to 14. Mayor Ma was the keynote speaker
at the 2004 Invest in Taipei & Business Alliance Forum in which
he encouraged multinational corporations to establish R & D
centers in Taiwan in a talk titled ˇ§Taipei ˇV The New Silicon Valley
in the Asia Pacific Region.ˇ¨ Forum speakers also included Dr. C.K.
Liu, Director General of TECO-Boston; Robert Ward, Massachusetts
Office of International Trade & Investment; Chairman Lin Kuan-ming,
Premier Venture Capital Corporation, and Tsay Shwu-chen, President
and CEO, Well-Being Biochemical Corporation.
While in Boston Mayor Ma also met with Boston Mayor Thomas Menino
and spoke at Harvardˇ¦s University's
Kennedy School of Government on Taiwan's Future Challenges. He also
visited the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab
and Genzyme Corporation, and attended a dinner in Chinatown in which
over 500 people from more than 30 organizations participated, including
Ms. Chiling Tong, Associate Director of Minority Business Development
Agency, U.S. Commerce Department.
