Maine House and Senate Pass Joint
Resolution Endorsing Taiwan's Participation in the World Health
Organization, May 01, 2006
The Maine House of Representatives and Senate
passed a joint resolution endorsing Taiwan's participation in the
World Health Organization on April 20, 2006. The resolution cited
numerous reasons why Taiwan should be granted observer status including,
in part, the fact that good health is essential to every citizen
of the world and access to health information and services of the
highest standard is necessary to improve public health, especially
in light of the great potential for cross-boarder spread of disease.
The resolution commends Taiwan's effort to
improve world health and the many contributions Taiwan has made
to improve world health. The resolution further notes that Taiwan's
effort to join the WHO is supported by the United States House of
Representatives and Senate, as well as the European Parliament.
