Kuo-tung Yang Hosts 94th National Day Reception in Boston.
Director-General of the Taipei Economic and
Cultural Office in Boston and Mrs. Kuo-tung Yang hosted the 94th
celebration of the National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan)
in Boston on October 6, 2005. Distinguished guests included, in
part, state senators, leaders of various houses of representatives,
and representatives from the surrounding New England states and
many diplomats from the consular corps in Boston. In addition, members
of academia, community leaders and friends joined in the national
day celebration.
Director-General Yang spoke of the historical significance of the
National Day of the Republic of China on Taiwan in which Dr. Sun
Yat-sen envisioned a government of the people, for the people, and
by the people which is today a reality on Taiwan and serves as a
beacon of hope and freedom for Chinese people everywhere. He highlighted
the close and friendly relationship between the people of the United
States and Taiwan, and the New England states, in particular. Mr.
Yang also thanked the American government and people for their friendship
and expressed appreciation to the overseas Chinese community in
Boston which has made many contributions over the years to Taiwan's
economy and democratic development.
