Director-General Kuo-tung Yang and Senior Commercial Officer Ai-Lan Chen represent Taiwan trade interests at 2005 Vermont Business & Industry Expo.
Director-General Kuo-tung Yang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston, accompanied by Senior Commercial Officer, Ai-Lan Chen, represented Taiwan trade interests at the 2005 Vermont Business & Industry Expo on May 25 ¡V 26. This annual event, organized by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, is the region's largest business-to-business trade show and hosts nearly 200 exhibitors , showcasing the latest in cutting edge products and services for the 3,000 business people who visited the two-day show. Vermont Governor Jim Douglas, Lieutenant Governor Brian Dubie, and Commissioner of Economic Development Kevin Dorn all visited TECO-Boston's booth and extended a welcome on behalf of the State of Vermont. TECO-Boston and the Canadian Consulate were the only two foreign offices that highlighted the 2005 Vermont Expo's international dimension. During the 2005 Vermont Expo, the signing of a Free Trade Agreement between the U.S. and Taiwan was strongly encouraged as well as the further promotion of bilateral trade and opportunities for mutual cooperation. According to 2004 trade information, Vermont exports to Taiwan have grown by 23% to a total of $512 million USD, ranking Vermont 7th among 50 states. Major export items include computer and electronic products. Taiwan is now the 2nd largest exporting destination to Vermont, next only to Canada.
