The Vermont Senate Chamber adopted a joint resolution supporting Taiwan's observer status in the World Health Organization on May 20, 2005. The Senate, citing in part (1) the fact that good health is essential to every citizen of the world, (2) Taiwan's substantial achievements in the field of health, and (3) the great potential for cross-border spread of disease offered its support for Taiwan to have direct and unobstructed access to information and assistance by the WHO.
The Resolution also pointed out that Taiwan's observer status is supported by the Bush administration, the European Parliament, and the US House and Senate. The Vermont Senate provided Director-General Kuo-tung Yang, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston, with an official copy of the Resolution.
