Director-General Kuo-tung Yang addresses the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce of New England-Greater Boston, April 30, 2005
Director-General Kuo-tung Yang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston attended the annual meeting and dinner banquet held by Taiwan Chamber of Commerce of New England ˇV Greater Boston (TCCNE) on April 30, 2005. On behalf of the government of the ROC, Mr. Yang extended his sincere gratitude to TCCNE for its continuing dedication to promote people-to-people diplomacy and bilateral trade and investment between Taiwan and the United States.
In his speech, Mr. Yang recognized the close trade relationship between Taiwan and the US and pointed out that Massachusetts exports to Taiwan have grown by a substantial 80% to a total of $951 million USD, ranking Massachusetts 4 th behind California, Texas and Washington. In order to further promote bilateral trade and increase opportunities for mutual cooperation, the government of Taiwan is working hard to sign a free trade agreement with the US. He asked chamber members to help make the US Congress aware of the importance of a FTA between Taiwan and the US and to encourage its passage.
In addition to promoting a Taiwan-US FTA, Mr. Yang shared Taiwan's recent economic achievements in high tech and innovation as well as plans to sell NT 2 trillion in semi conductors and image displays and in the so-called ˇ§twin starsˇ¨, digital content and bio technology industries. He also asked chamber members to support the ROC Government by putting down business roots in Taiwan and then from there expand worldwide trade and investment opportunities.
Established in 1996, TCCNE, a member of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce of North America, has not only acted as a bridge between Taiwan and the United States, but also continues to serve an essential part of the Asian community in the greater Boston area.
